What is the best place to convert to Kenyan Shilling in Nairobi? Would the international airport offer good rates? or should I do it from an ATM?
Forex Bureaus give best rates compared to Banks. Bureaus in town rates are more attractive than bureaus airport.
There are ATMs right outside of Baggage Claim which give the best rate. Easy enough to dip the debit card, withdraw and you're on your way.
And of course with ATMs you only carry the money you need at the time, you don't have to carry large amounts of cash.
With ATMs you get the Inter-Bank exchange rate which is better than any rate you will get from a bank or forex, but then you have the ATM withdrawal charge and an exchange fee, so whilst not as good as the best forex, it is comparable to most and is better than exchanging at a hotel, or at forexs in your own country.
The best place is the forex exchange bureaus in the cbd.
Exchanges in CBD are much better in rates than Airport.
